The Green Jobs Myth

- Image via Wikipedia
The May 20th issue of Investor’s Business Daily featured an editorial titled “The Green Jobs Myth.”
The piece centers around a 41-page study that was done last year by Spanish economics professor, Gabriel Calzada Alvarez of Juan Carlos University in Madrid. The study found that in Spain for every “green” job created “2.2 jobs were destroyed elsewhere in the economy because resources were being directed politically and not rationally, as in a market economy.”
Of course, the environmental movement did everything to smear him as a puppet of the oil industry. Unfortunately for the environmentalist, two Italian economists found statistics that paint a bleaker picture. Carlo Stegnaro and Luciano Lavecchia, both with Istituto Bruno Leoni, found in Italy, “the losses were worse than they were in Spain: Each green jobs cost 6.9 jobs in the industrial sector and 4.8 jobs across the entire economy.”
A report leaked by the Spanish government has found statistics similar to the Alvarez study. “The green lobby can’t claim bias in this analysis because the Zapatero administration that compiled it is a socialist government that sees windmills when more rational people see dragons.”
The article goes on the say that Chris Horner, senior fellow at the Competitive Enterprise Institute, has seen a copy of the report and that the “Spanish government now acknowledges the ruinous effects of green economic policy.”
Another interesting quote from the piece,
The findings from Europe contradict President Obama’s claim in his State of the Union address that “the nation that leads the clean energy economy will be the nation that leads the global economy.” Before he took office, he warned that the U.S. was falling behind nations that are “making real investments in renewable energy.”
Now it looks like the U.S. is lucky to be lagging in alternative-energy investment.
What are your thoughts on the development of green jobs in this country?

ACORN & Carnhan: What you need to know
The Missouri Republican Party has launched a new web video and website, www.acorncarnahan.com.
The Missouri GOP has obtained documents that clearly show a close relationship between Robin Carnahan and ACORN. ACORN is the liberal group that has come under fire for encouraging illegal behavior and engaging in a systematic effort to commit voter registration fraud. In spite of more than a dozen convictions in Missouri, the submission of tens of thousands of questionable or false voter registration forms, and recent shocking videos that show the group promoting criminal activities, Robin Carnahan still not taken the opportunity to distance herself from ACORN. During her five years as the state’s highest ranking elections official, Carnahan has never condemned the embattled liberal group.
Although Robin Carnahan has remained silent, the communication between her office and ACORN speaks loud and clear. From meetings in her office, to events, to research, documents obtained by the Missouri Republican Party make it clear that Robin Carnahan and ACORN are too close for comfort.
